Taken from a letter written by Ralph Tipsword (son of Isaac Benton Tipsword, grandson of Ashby Tipsword, who was the son of Isaac Tipsword) and notarized 12/21/1975. Published in The Griffin Tipsword Story: The First White Settler in Effingham County, Illinois. My father's Uncle William, brother of Thomas and Marion, lived in Coles County in a cabin on the Embarrass River. When he lost his wife he was so lonesome he came here and my father hired him to help with the timber cutting. One day he just walked away from the timber and we didn't hear from him again for years. Later he lived for a time at the Shelby County Poor Farm and one fine spring day he just walked away from there. He was found later back at his cabin on the Embarras River in Coles County.
