"Watson married Margaret Purkey July 1, 1866. Margaret Purkey was born September 13, 1846 in Ohio. Margaret (Maggie) was the daughter of Levi and Mary (Waltermire) Purkey. She was one of ten children. Six of the brothers and sisters died before 1888. The four remaining children were Sarah, Margaret, Andrew, and Mollie.
"They had six children, Eva E., Mina M., Charles Logan, Avis A., Andrew Russell, and Mollie M. (continues on with a genealogy of the children Eva, Willis, Mina, Everett, Estella, Charles Logan, Avia A., Mollie...)
"Watson was a veteran of the Civil War. He was a member of Company B 4th Iowa Cavalry. His great grandchildren and grand nephews and nieces can remember his clipping a thimble from their Aunt Maggie's head with his old army sword.
"July 1, 1916 Watson and Maggie celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. The celebration was held on their lawn with about 200 in attendance.
"Margaret departed this life June 30, 1931. Watson died December 12, 1932.
They are both laid to rest in the Main Cemetery now known as the Belgrade Cemetery."
