BIOGRAPHY: Cedar Rapids, Nebraska 1884-1984, 978.251/C1 H2C, p 9, Pioneer Sketches;
"G. H. Cox -- born in New York in 1832. He married Eva Burkman in 1859 in Maryville, Missouri. They had six children. Before this, he served two years, nine months i the Civil War with the 35th Iowa Infantry. Gilbert homesteaded on a farm, Section 10, Township 18, Range 7, about two miles southeast of Cedar Rapids in 1872. The farm is still owned by his great grandson, Maurice Cox. A great-great grandson, Jim Cox, now lives there with his family. Gilbert was well known for being a great hunter, probably having killed more wild game, including ground squirrels and buffalo, than any other pioneer in the area. He died August 22, 1907 in Cedar Rapids."

"Edwin Broadbent -- born December 4, 1823 in Lancashire, England. Edwin came to America in May of 1841, first settling in Pennsylvania. He then moved to Wisconsin and married Elizabeth Ann Wright January 31, 1853. The couple had seven children...
"The family came to Dayton in 1872 and homesteaded south of Cedar Rapids. Edwin died here September 25, 1899. Before his death, he had been a carpenter and helped build many of the first buildings in Cedar Rapids. He served as Boone County Commissioner from 1874 till 1879."
p 71, listed as one of the first attendees of the Methodist Church.
p 72, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Broadbent are listed as some of the early members during the years between 1872-1881. Edwin is also listed as a member of the building committee for a new building, and a member of the first Administrative Board.
p 204, under Robinson Family, He [Edwin] came to America in May, 1841. Settled first in Pennsylvania, then in Wisconsin. Marreid Elizabeth Ann Wright January 31, 1853 in Wisconsin - seven children. Married a second time in 1883.
"Came to Cedar Valley in 1872 where he took a homestead south of the present site of Cedar Rapids. He was also a carpenter and helped to build many of the first buildings in Cedar Rapids. Served as Boone County Commissioner six years, 1874-1879."
