BIOGRAPHY: The Family and Ancestry of Eno Rogers and Margaret Evans of Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; by Milton D. Forsyth, Jr., pub 1992 in Chapel Hill, NC; p 6, under Rachel Rogers;
"Rachel. Born circa 1773 (?), in Warrington Twp., York Co, PA. Died, circa 1845, in Malaga Twp., Monroe Co., OH. She married at the Meeting House at Stanton, Millcreek Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware, on 20 March 1793, a Robert Leslie,, "son of Thomas Leslie, late of Bohemia Manor, Cecil County, Maryland. (Wilmington MM, Marriages, 1750-1938, p 117)" Her mother and sisters Sarah and Mary were present. The Leslie family, supposedly of Scottish origin, was in Cecil County from the late 1600s. On 15 Apr 1795 Robert Leslie, his wife Rachel, and their daughter, Margaret, were granted a certificate of removal to Nottingham Meeting, nominally in Chester County, Pennsylvania, having already joved into the area of that meeting, probably residing in Cecil County, Maryland (Wilmington MM, Removals Issued, 1751-1816, p 321).
"Sometime about 1810-15 the familymoved to Monroe County, Ohio, where they resided in Malaga Township (1830 Federal Census, Monroe Co., OH, p 94) and attended the Somerset Meeting in nearby Belmont County, although the records show some of the family were discontinued from the membership in this meeting, several in the Hicksite Separation of 1828. On 24 Mar 1836 Robert Leslie entered into an agreement with his son Levi "toward the said Robert and Rachel, his wife, during their natural lifetimes" to sell Levi a plot of land "on which the said parties now reside" (being the E 1/2 of NW 1/4 of S.28, T.5, R.5 in Malaga Twp.), giving Robert or Rachel use of the land during their lifetimes, requuiring payment of 1/2 of the profits from the sale of crops from the land, and within two years after their decease to pay the estate the amount of the price of the land not yet paid. In the newspaper of 3 May 1844 an excutor's otice appeared asking payment to the estate of Robert "Lessley", late of Monroe Co., deceased, and in the October Court term of 1845 Levi was sued by the executor for the money owed. This places the death of Robert Leslie at about 1843, and Rachel by then or within a few years thereafter (Monroe County, OH Deed Book 1, p 7; Court Record Book 7, Oct 1845, p 252; Appearance Docket 7, p 348). The records of the Quaker Cemetery in Jerusalem, Malaga Twp., record the following burials: Lesley, R. (row 3, nr. 2); Leysley, Rachel (row 3, nr. 6).
"Rachel and Robert had eight children, surname Leslie: Margaret, b 3 Aug 1794, in probably New Castle County, DE; Elizabeth, b 31 Aug 1796, m 3 Oct 1821 Somerset MM, BelmontCo., OH, Benjamin Morris; Thomas, b 11 May 1798, m 16 Mar 1826, Belmont Co., OH, Aletha Johnson; Mary, b 7 Apr 1801, m 3 Oct 1821 (on the same day as her sister Elizabeth), Somerset MM, Belmont Co., OH, William Stanton; Robert, b 18 May 1803; Johnson, b 15 Oct 1805, m Eleanor (-----); Sarah, b 25 Oct 1807, d 22 Dec 1831, Ohio, m 6 Apr 1826, Somerset MM, Belmont Co., OH, John Wood; Levi, b 9 Mar 1810, "near North East", in Cecil Co., MD, m 22 Dec 1834, Belmont Co., OH, SarahThomas, who as Sarah Leslie was discontinued from the Somerset Meeting in 1836 for marrying contrary to discipline, Levi having been separated as a Hicksite in 1829 (Nottingham MM, Births, n. p.; except as noted, all probably in Cecil Co., MD across the state line from Pennsylvania, the East and West Nottingham meeting houses being in Maryland; Hinshaw, Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, Vol. 4, pp. 585, 588, 594, 601)."

RESIDENCES:
