LAND: John Chronister (if this is the right one?) in the Reading Twp, Adams Co, PA tax list (film 20692, tax list 1798 - 1842) in 1807, with no land. In 1811 he receives 100 acres and in 1814 an additional 34 acres (134 total), which drops to 132 acres in 1820. In 1831, after land transfers, John ends up with 297 acres, which drops to 288 in 1835. In 1840 John sells 25 acres to Albert and 20 to ? leaving 252 acres.

JOHANNES CHRONISTER is the second son of Heinrich and Susanna (Cox) Chronister was born on April 20, 1774 in Reading Township, York County, Pa. Like his older brother Abraham, Johannes lived all of his life famring in Reading Township. In or about 1799 he was married to his cousin CATHERINE OBERHOLTZER who was born on June 21, 1778. Catherine was the daughter of JOHANNES and ANNA MARIA (Chronister) OBERHOLTZER and a granddaughter of Johannes Kranester (see Part I). Johannes and Catherine were the parents of 14 children all born in Reading Township. [14 children listed]
Johannes inherited part of his father's large plantation in Reading Towndhip and also owned a farm in Tyrone Township to the west. He had outlived all eight of his brothers when he died on October 6, 1841 at the age of 67. His wife Catherine died on October 27, 1852 having lived with their son Benjamin after Johannes' death. They are both buried in the Hampton Lutheran Cemetery in Hampton, Pa.
