BIOGRAPHY: Notes on the Family of Johannes Chronister 1708-1782 by Gary Chronister, 1983, p 17;
SECTION I
ABRAHAM CHRONISTER
born-1770
died-1836
ABRAHAM CHRONISTER - the eldest son of Heinrich and Susanna (Cox) Chronister was born in the year 1770 in Reading Township, York County, Pennsylvania. Abraham lived his entire life in Reading Township and earned his living as a farmer. In or about 1795 he was married to a girl by the nameof Julianna, who was born about 1775, and they were the parents of 13 children all born in Reading Township. They are;
1) ELISABETH, born 14, 1796
2) CATHARINA, born-June 25, 1797
3) ABRAHAM, born-November 21, 1798
4) MARGRETHA, born-October 25, 1800
5) JONAS, born-August 28, 1804
6) SIMON, born-June 24, 1806
7) MARIA, born-1808
8) JULIANNA, born-1808
9) CHRISTIAN, born-May 14, 1810
10) LEVI, born-December 13, 1811
11) DAUGHTER, born-1813
12) EMANUEL, born-June 12, 1815
13) DAUGHTER, born-1817
When his father died in 1818, Abraham inherited part of the home farm as did his brothers and sisters. Eventually he owned as much as 400 acrres in Reading Township and also land in Junita Township, Perry Co., Pa. and in Monroe Township of Cumberland Co., Pa. Abraham deeded land to his sons one at a time as they reached their 21st year, for example Abraham in 1819 and Jonas in 1825 thus eliminating the need of a will. Jonas received Abraham's share of heinrich's estate.
Inthe years 1825 and 1826, three of Abraham's younger brothers William David, and Jacob died, probably of an epidemic of the time. Besides being an administrator for all three, Abraham was appointed the legal guardian foa all 11 of his brother David's children (see Section VI) on November 28, 1826 although it appears that some of the children were raised by other members of the family.
According to a biographydoneon his grandson Levi Chronister in the 1800's, Abraham served in the army during the War of 1812 but no proof of this can be found. He died in 1836 at the age of 66 and is buried in the Hampton Lutheran cemetary in Hampton, Pennsylvania. His wife Julianna died around 1840 and is buried at his side.
