BIOGRAPHY: Notes on the Family of Johannes Chronister 1708-1782 by Gary Chronister, 1983, p 45;
CASPER CHRONISTER the fifth son of Heinrich and Susanna (Cox) Chronister was born in the year 1782 in Reading Township, York County, Pennsylvania. Casper was named after his great-grandfather, CASPER ELLICKER (See Ch. I), who died in 1766. He was raised as a worker of the land and consequently spent his entire life as a farmer. At the young age of 18 in about 1800 Casper was married to a gir by the name of MARIA HELENA and they were the parents of 11 children all of whom where born in Reading Township. The are;
1) DAUGHTER, b 1800
2) GEORGE, b 1801
3) JACOB, b 1802
4) JOHANNES, b 1803
5) PETER, b 1804
6) HEINRICH, b 1805
7) CASPER, b 1807, died young
8) ELIJAH, b July 7, 1809
9) CASPER, b 1811
10) CHILD, b 1813, died young
11) ELIZABETH ANN, b Jan 23, 1816
In 1816, possibly at the birth of their eleventh child, Maria Helena died and in November of that year their seven sons applied for guardianship of her estate. It appears that the sixth son named Casper died sometime in 1809 after his baptism on November 4, 1808 and therfore the eighth son was named Casper also. In or about 1819 Casper was remarried but the name of his second wife is not known. From this marriage he had 2 more children. They are;
1) WILSON BOYD, b Dec 1820
2) SARAH JANE, b 1822, d Apr 23, 1842.
From the time of his first marriage until sometime in the 1820's, Casper lived on part of his father's farm in Reading Township at which time he moved to Newton Township of Cumberland County, Pa. to the north. In about 1834 Casper and his familymoved from Pennsylvania to Richland County, Ohio where he lived in the town of Mansfield in 1840 with his two youngest children. It appears that his second wife died sometime in the 1830's. Casper died in April of 1841 at the age of 59 and his son Jacob who also lived in Mansfield was the administrator of his estate. He was probably buried in Mansfield but his gravestone can no longer be found. One daughter, below, was married;
1) ELIZABETH ANN CHRONISTER married JOHN FREED (Richland Co., Ohio).
