BURIAL: He & Sarah were buried in Friends Burial Ground Flushing LI.
He may have been the son of Peter Thorn who sailed from London 4/10/1635 with his wife Sarah and son William.
He was made a freeman of Lynn, MA 5/2/1638 & had 40 acres apportioned to him. He denied the right of the church to baptize infants & was charged with heresy.
He became a Quaker & went to Long Island in 1642.
His wife left him & sued for alimony supported by her son Joseph.
With 17 others he was one of the patentee of Flushing LI 10/19/1645.

Henry Howland was a yeoman, a farmer who cultivates his own land. Children included sons, Arthur, John, Humphrey, George, Simon and Henry, and daughter, Margaret. Sons, Humphrey, George, and Simon were merchants in London, and Arthur, John, and Henry went to america. Margaret married Richard Phillips of Fen Stanton. From WFT vol. 7 tree # 2867

John Howland resided in Plymouth until 1638 when he removed to Rocky Nook, now part of Kingston. He was respected and useful citizen, holding various town offices and active in support of the church, although his two brothers, Henry of Duxbury and Arthur, of Marshfield, were Quakers.
The 23rd of February, 1672 Mar.John Howland, senior, of the town of Plymouth, deceased. He was godly man and an ancient professor in the wayes of Christ. He lived until he attained above eighty years in the world. He was one of the first comers into this land, and proved a useful instrument of good in his place, & was last man that was left of those that came over in the ship MayFlower, that landed in Plymouth; he was with honor intered at
the town of Plymouth on the 25 of February, 1672.
